01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One diner who ordered half a grilled mackerel recalled its flesh as tender and so juicy that liquid ran out when they cut into it with chopsticks. At Ajisai, fish dishes could anchor an evening, or you could enjoy a drink over simmered hamburg steak and a selection of small plates.

Oden featured daikon radish and fishcake dumplings in another diner’s order. They remembered the neatly bevelled daikon and the clear, mild broth. After adding shichimi pepper, they poured a little Kinmiya shochu into the broth and drank it. Oden also came up in an account of a company gathering, where it was served in individual portions. It can work as a shared addition to a meal with a larger group, too.

For something more substantial, consider the simmered hamburg steak. A diner who ordered it praised the flavour of its special sauce and the care taken in its preparation. The menu also includes silver salmon grilled Saikyo-style, which another diner singled out as a recommended dish. If you’re in the mood for grilled fish, you could choose mackerel or salmon and add a few small plates, shaping the meal at your own pace.
